Air New Zealand and several regional carriers have increased airfares in response to a sharp spike in jet fuel prices driven by conflict in the Middle East.
Speaking on behalf of the sector, AIANZ Chief Executive Simon Wallace described the situation as “very serious” for an industry heavily dependent on fuel.
Wallace noted that escalating costs are placing significant pressure on both major and regional airlines, and emphasised that relief from government‑imposed charges — such as CAA levies — would provide meaningful support to help operators maintain essential air services across the country.
