Air New Zealand is funding a feasibility study into a potential aviation engineering training facility in Kerikeri, Northland — and AIANZ is fully behind it.
New Zealand currently faces a shortage of around 300 aviation engineers per year. AIANZ Chief Executive Simon Wallace has welcomed the initiative as a direct result of the industry’s collaborative efforts to solve this problem:
“We are really pleased that as a result of the work that we’ve done, Air New Zealand is going to look at a feasibility study with the hope that there will be an engineering training facility — and it will be really good for Northland youth.”

Feasibility findings are expected in late 2026.
